How many people does it take to sail the e33 squared?
One! The e33 can be single-handed quite easily. Crew weight is not required for stability and only the jib sheet needs to be tended when tacking. At the same time, the cockpit is large enough for six to eight adults to comfortably enjoy a sail together.

What’s been updated on the new e33 squared edition?
The culmination of five years of design innovations, this next generation e33 is truly an American made gem.  Here’s a list of what’s new on the e33 squared:

1. Lyman-Morse (Thomaston, ME) has pushed the e33 to meet the highest quality build standards.  Each e33 squared is built in a state of the art, environmentally friendly boat building facility by world renowned craftspeople that excel in the most advanced marine systems and boat building techniques. In house fabrication of stainless steel parts results in superior quality and fit of components.
   
   
2. Owners have access to the same boutique experience and high level of customer service available to Lyman-Morse’s custom yacht customers.  Owners enjoy full access to the designer, project manager and builder during the sales, production, sea trial and post production phases of ownership.
   
   
3. The unique square top mainsail with a game changing batten system that that automatically optimizes sail shape at all wind speeds.   This makes the e33 squared deliver performance you have to see to believe in both light and heavy air.
   
   
4. A mainsail that falls away from mast into cover when the halyard is released.
   
   
5. A Jib furler with very slim luff extrusion that has little to no negative impact on the sail shape and performance.  The new torque adapter, standard on the e33 squared, makes furling virtually effortless.   This great combination of performance and ease of handling cannot be found on any other furling headsail.
   
   
6. Standard or shoal draft keel that have both proven to be winning designs that provide excellent lift/drag ratio with low wetted surface and low center of gravity.

Can it have a self tacking jib?
Yes, there is a system designed that easily converts the jib to self tacking. A track is installed just forward of the mast on the cabin top and the sheet leads forward to the tack and is trimmed from inside the cockpit.

What are the disadvantages of a self tacking jib?
A bit of jib area is sacrificed, and the trim is not as precise. However the boat will still sail very well with the self tacking jib.

Why not make the self tacking jib standard?
Perhaps this is our sailing heritage. Whether crewing or steering, we actually prefer to have as much crew participation as is practical and comfortable. Trimming the jib is quite easy, so why give up a bit of performance and crew interaction? Just the personal opinions of two die hard sailors!

The standard e33 squared does not have life-lines. Is this safe?
The e33 is designed to be sailed and enjoyed from inside the cockpit. This is much safer than being outside the cockpit and contained by life-lines. The seating and foot bracing is designed so everyone will be comfortable and feel secure at all points of sail and in all conditions. Kids too!   However, we can install life-lines if you prefer this option.

The keel has a fairly straight slope on the leading edge, will it catch things?
The first part of this answer doesn’t address the keel directly. The “V” hull section forward does a lot to deflect objects. The keel has been designed with a balance of practicality and efficiency. The slope we chose comes from experience with many boats. While it can “catch” things, it is unlikely and they will slip off quickly without becoming stuck. This is why the bulb has no forward protrusion.

Does the e33 squared have an enclosed head?
The e33 comes standard with a fully plumbed marine head and black water system that can be enclosed by with either privacy curtain or light weight bulkhead. For those interested in maximum privacy the bulkhead fully encloses the head.

Is there a shoal keel option?
Yes. We offer a 4’- 9” shoal keel which provides the same righting moment and equal lift as the standard draft version. We also offer a super shoal keel at 4’.

Marblehead, MA: 105/114 (spin/JaM)
Narragansett Bay:  108/121 (spin/JaM)
Lake Michigan: 105
